Portages and Support
The Rideau Canal has a series of 8 locks along the race route which must be portaged. The portages vary in length from 30m to 350m, are all well maintained and often have facilities available.
The list of lock stations with portaging maps and driving directions are available below.
The Kingston to Ottawa is a supported paddling marathon and support crews are strongly recommended for all racers. Support crews are permitted to provide racers with food, drinks, medicine, clothing, moral support, and other items to fatigued paddlers during the race. Adventure and Competitive class racers may also receive help to portage their boats, see rules for additional details.
